Costa Rica continues to be an environmental leader. By compensating Costa Ricans to plant trees and restore ecosystems, the country's forests have doubled in size. This model has been so successful, Earthshot Prize 2021 WInner, Costa Rica, are now replicating it for their marine reserves, which have seen incredible expansion from 3% to 30.3%. Their Prize money has been put towards the protection and restoration of biodiversity in the Cocos Island Nation Park, renowned for it's rich marine life.
