Beautiful Pacific white-sided dolphins cruising through Monterey Bay. 🎥: Adam Ernster Photography Can you spot their northern right whale dolph-friends?! At the beginning of the clip, you can hear the clicks and high frequency signature whistles produced by the white-sided dolphins that are unique to each individual. In the second half of the video, listen closely to the different vocalizations that come in. Those are the sounds of northern right whale dolphins, who communicate with pulsed voca

Atlantic White-sided Dolphins!! Spent a wonderful afternoon with pho-tour traveller Dave Potter watching, photographing and filming this huge pod of Atlantic White-sided Dolphins between Yell and the north Mainland. Here's some drone footage by Hugh of some of the action - check out those calves! Special thanks to Kristofer Wilson for the call! Check out this large pod of Atlantic white sided dolphins we encountered today on our trip. They were all around the boat and lighting conditions were just perfect for sighting them before they rose to the surface to take a breath. These dolphins move quickly and it's often difficult to keep up with them on video. Midway through the video you hear our naturalist, Tina, spot a tiny calf. See if you can see the calf. As we made our way up to the feeding grounds this morning-check out this small pod of Atlantic white sided dolphins we encountered. They are one of the few toothed whales we see...and we don't see them that often. Such fun! Once on the feeding grounds we found Satula doing some feeding, Pinball and her calf, and Clamp. 🔈 Sound on! 🎥: Slater Moore Photography Pacific white-sided dolphins are one of the most abudant dolphin species in the North Pacific. Pods typically consist of 10 to 100 dolphins, but they have been seen gathering in the thousands! 🎥: Slater Moore Photography There are over 80 species of cetaceans split into two groups - the Mysticetes (mustache whales) and Ontontocetes (toothed whales). Mysticetes have baleen, which is a filter-feeding system inside their mouths used to collect krill, plankton, and small fish. This group contains the largest species in the world, the blue whale. Then we have the odontocetes which are toothed whales (porpoises, dolphins, and sperm whales)! Odontocetes eat squid, octopus, fish, prawns, cru

Atlantic white-sided dolphins, although common in the north Atlantic, they are a rare sight north of Grand Manan in the Bay of Fundy, especially a large pod like this. Atlantic white-sided dolphins, affectionately referred to as "lags" (from their scientific name, Lagenorhynchus acutes) are slightly larger than most oceanic dolphins, averaging 8-9 feet and ~500 lbs. The key distinguishing feature is the white to pale yellow patch behind the dorsal fin on both the left and right hand side of the

Pacific White Sided Dolphins Fleeing the Storm 2023 There are moments on the water when the whole world seems to hold its breath… and then suddenly burst into motion. Out on the Johnstone Strait in 2023, we were just easing away after time spent with a group of orcas, calm, steady, completely unbothered by the shifting sky above them, when the energy around us changed. The air thickened. The light dimmed. That unmistakable tension of an approaching thunderstorm began to ripple across the surface

When I looked into the eye of a pacific white sided dolphin for the first time I unabashedly had tears running down my face as I cheered. Pacific white sided dolphins are locally known as “lags” because their old scientific name was Lagenorhynchus obliquidens (but the species was reassigned to the genus Aethalodelphis just this year! *2025*) #PacificWhiteSidedDolphins #SalishSea #WildlifeVideo #DolphinWatching #NatureLovers #MarineLife #OceanAdventure #DolphinsInTheWild #BoatLife #NatureDocument

The Pacific white-sided dolphin, often called the "Lags," is a charismatic and highly social marine mammal found along the west coast of North America. With its striking black, gray, and white coloring, this species is easily recognizable. Known for its playful behavior, Pacific white-sided dolphins are frequently spotted riding the bow waves of boats and leaping out of the water. These dolphins form tight-knit groups, or pods, ranging from a few individuals to several hundred. They're excellent
