Welcome ceremonies celebrating the first day of O-Week were held last night as the incoming Rice University Class of 2023 officially matriculated. Our new students were greeted with fireworks as they walked through the Sallyport — the traditional symbolic entrance into their new lives as Rice Owls. According to tradition, they will not exit through the Sallyport until the day of their graduation. | Rice University
