Our Corsair was manufactured by Goodyear in April of 1945. The aircraft was delivered to Marine Squadron VMF-115, part of Marine Air Group 12, at Moret Field near Zamboanga on Mindanao (Philippines). From June 7th to August 29th, 1945, our aircraft took part in more than 30 combat missions, performing bombing runs, napalm strikes, and rocket attacks. It's not as easy as it might look... The Corsair cockpit sits nearly 10 feet off the ground, so handholds and steps are built into the fuselage to make getting in easy... well easier. Back in the day, pilots didn’t treat their planes like the priceless artifacts they are today! Climbing onto the wing with boots on was a common sight.
