City of Riverside Fire Department Anniversary October is a special month for the City of Riverside Fire Department. October 7, 1887 marks the formal organization of the fire department. This year we will be celebrating 133 years of formal service. In 1882 William Hayt arrived in Riverside and organized the volunteer firefighters into a formal volunteer organization, this marks 138 years of service.
