Claude Debussy's "La Mer" was premiered on this day in 1905 in Paris by the Orchestre Lamoureux under the direction of Camille Chevillard. Initially, the work was not well received, but over the decades, it became a staple of the core orchestral repertoire. Leonard Bernstein made three recordings of the work, two with the New York Philharmonic and one with the Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia.
