(Reuters) -GitHub Chief Executive Thomas Dohmke said on Monday he will leave the Microsoft-owned code-hosting platform to launch a new startup, capping a tenure that included a major push into artificial intelligence through the company's Copilot products.

Thomas Dohmke, the CEO of GitHub, has announced he is resigning from the company to become a startup founder. GitHub will continue to work under Microsoft’s CoreAI organisation, Dohmke said, adding further details will be shared soon.

The move comes as GitHub is facing growing competition from companies like Google and Cursor over AI tools for programmers.
