Tropical Storm Melissa was moving slowly through the Caribbean Sea early Thursday, said forecasters warning of "life-threatening flooding," and landslides.

At 11 p.m. Saturday, the National Hurricane Center issued an advisory stating that Category 3 Hurricane Melissa is in the Caribbean Sea, 125 miles south-southeast of Kingston Jamaica and 280 miles west-southwest of Port Au Prince Haiti. The hurricane, with maximum sustained winds of 115 mph, is moving west at 3 mph.

Hurricane Melissa has intensified into a Category 1 storm and is forecast to rapidly strengthen into a major hurricane over the weekend, posing a severe and multi-day threat of life-threatening flash flooding,

Melissa could be one of the most intense, devastating hurricanes on record in Jamaica, with widespread flooding, landslides and destructive winds. Flooding rain is also a grave concern in Hispaniola.
