Subway passengers in New York City were left stranded inside carriages after torrential rain caused flood waters to gush onto platforms. Video footage from the platform of 28th Street Station showed passengers watching from inside the train as water poured into the station.

Floods submerged cars and grounded planes in New Jersey, prompting the governor to declare a state of emergency. The deluge also hit New York and Pennsylvania.
