Jamaica issued a Hurricane Watch and Tropical Storm Warning Thursday morning. The island nation is expected to see hurricane conditions, including life-threatening flash flooding, from Tropical Storm Melissa beginning Friday afternoon.
A weather disaster could unfold across Jamaica, southern Haiti and Cuba from the weekend into next week, as slow-moving Hurricane Melissa is forecast to rapidly intensify into a major hurricane by the end of the weekend.
The slow-moving storm was expected to drop torrential rain, up to 25 inches, on Jamaica. A similar forecast was issued for the southern regions of Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
