Much of the state, including Oklahoma City, Stillwater and Ada, should expect a moderate risk of tornadoes, damaging hail and strong winds on Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Norman, the first round of severe weather on Sunday, May 17, in Oklahoma is expected to start after 5 p.m. Potential for tornadoes is expected to be low, but north-central parts of the state could see medium risk.

At least 28 people have been killed in storms that have pummeled the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic regions since Friday. Kentucky and Missouri have been hit particularly hard.

Areas at risk of thunderstorms include communities in Kentucky and Missouri that were hit by Friday’s devastating tornadoes.

At least 18 people have died in Kentucky following severe weather that swept through Missouri and Kentucky. Gov. Andy Beshear said the fatalities were caused by a single tornado, initially estimated to be an EF3.

Storms capable of producing hail larger than golf balls were expected to persist on Monday. Widespread damage was reported on Sunday.

The storms were part of a weather system on Friday that killed 19 people in Kentucky, seven in Missouri and at least one person in Virginia.

The storm-weary central U.S. is facing another bout of severe weather to start the week that could produce multiple tornadoes, wind damage and large hail.
