Growing up, whenever there was a hurricane or a big storm, Jason Robinson enjoyed looking at maps from electric utilities’ websites that showed power outages.

Thousands of North Texas residents are without power Tuesday morning, with Dallas County reporting the most outages.

The storm, part of a system stretching from Iowa to Texas, was expected to intensify, bringing the threat of blizzards, tornadoes and damaging winds across the central and southern United States.
