With Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy fading on the back nine, Patrick Rodgers claimed the lead and Denny McCarthy is hot on his tail at the Genesis.

The lowest scorer among them was journeyman Denny McCarthy, who assumed the first-round lead with an eagle on the 574-yard, par-5 18th hole. McCarthy smashed his drive 308 yards off the tee and put his second shot within 7 1/2 feet of the cup before completing a 4-under 68 for a one-stroke advantage over Seamus Power and Patrick Rodgers.

A rainy, wet, miserable day at Torrey Pines Golf Club tested the world's best in the first round of the 2025 Genesis Invitational. Taking to the South Course, players endured a brutal 18 holes and combined to post a scoring average north of two strokes over par.

In the opening round of The Genesis Invitational 2025, Denny McCarthy carded a 4-under 68 to take an early one-stroke lead over the field.

While golfers with grander resumes struggled to keep pace, a pair of veteran non-winners moved to the top of the leaderboard Saturday in the third round of the Genesis Invitational at Torrey Pines.
