The price of a ticket for the multi-state Mega Millions lottery game will increase from $2 to $5 next month. While a ticket will cost more than twice as much starting April 5, Mega Millions officials say the odds of winning the jackpot will improve. There will also be larger starting jackpots and the size of the jackpots will jump more quickly.

A Mega Millions ticket sold in California just missed the $256 million jackpot but won $929,886, lottery officials said. The ticket matched five winning numbers but not the Mega Ball in the drawing Tuesday, March 11, the California Lottery said.
