Kim Jong-un Wants Recognition — And Trump Might Just Give It
Donald Trump has once again stirred global headlines by suggesting he might recognize North Korea as a nuclear state. During a press briefing, he acknowledged North Korea's nuclear arsenal and expressed full openness to meeting Kim Jong-un.
“If the United States drops the absurd obsession with denuclearising us and accepts reality, and wants genuine peaceful coexistence, there is no reason for us not to sit down with the United States,” Kim said in a speech at the Supreme People’s Assembly in Pyongyang on Sunday, according to the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).
President Trump has repeatedly said that he wants to see the North Korean leader again. Mr. Kim has indicated that he is open to the idea — but only under a strict condition.
A more emboldened and dangerous North Korea, closer to Russia and China, makes unacceptable demands.
