PROVIDENCE – Two North Providence city councilmen and a former state representative are among the potential candidates for the state Senate seat long held by the late Dominick Ruggerio that will go to the winner of a special election this summer.
The Rhode Island Board of Elections said Tuesday that a special election to fill Dominick Ruggerio's vacant seat in the state Senate will be held in August.
Ruggerio had long represented Senate District 4, which includes parts of North Providence and Providence. Any primaries will take place on July 8.
Manny Taveras has announced he’s running in the special election for Senate District 4, making him the second Democrat to do so.
