Tens of millions of people across the central and southern US are at risk Tuesday of severe thunderstorms and tornadoes and fire weather on the storm’s warm side and blizzard conditions on its cold side.

The strongest storms could bring wind gusts as high as hurricane force (70-80 mph), according to the weather service. Winds like that could bring down lots of trees and power lines. A few tornadoes will also be possible, especially in southwest Alabama.

-Widespread damaging winds and tornadoes are the biggest threats, especially in areas shaded red below. The threat of a strong tornado (EF2 or greater damage) is most likely in southern Arkansas, the northern half of Louisiana, central and southern Mississippi, and the far western Florida Panhandle.
