Police have arrested a man suspected of a fatal crash in Aurora last week that claimed the lives of a woman and a teenage girl.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A Minnesota man was sentenced to nearly 59 years Thursday for causing a crash that killed five young women who were out making preparations for a friend’s wedding.

A child died and three other pedestrians were injured on Thursday when they were hit by a car in Bergen County, authorities said. The pedestrians were struck at 3:43 p.m. at the intersection of East Oak Street and Ramapo Valley Road in Oakland, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement.

Melody Little, 24 of West St. Paul, and Jordan Weiland, a 20-year-old from White Bear Lake, are each charged with two counts of third-degree murder and two counts of criminal vehicular homicide, according to court documents filed Thursday.

The Ontonagon County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and found a burned vehicle off the roadway. The female driver was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene, according to the TV station. She has not been identified by name. The crash is under investigation, but excessive speed is believed to be a factor.

The head of the Federal Aviation Administration said Thursday the fatal crash of an Air India Boeing 787 does not appear to be caused by a mechanical issue or inadvertent movement of the fuel control unit.
