Since Israel’s offensive led to a security breakdown in Gaza that has made it nearly impossible to safely deliver food to starving Palestinians, much of the limited aid entering is being hoarded by gangs and merchants and sold at exorbitant prices.

Israel said Monday that more than 120 truckloads of food aid were distributed by the U.N. and aid agencies in the Gaza Strip, French news agency AFP reported. Both aid groups and people with family in Gaza described the situation as the worst it has ever been.

At least 78 Palestinians have been killed across the Gaza Strip by Israeli strikes or gunfire, according to local health officials.

President Donald Trump has announced plans to press Israel for more food aid to Gaza. Trump made the statement during a meeting Monday with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer at Trump's Turnberry golf course in Scotland.

The announcement came after Trump and European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen met briefly at Trump’s Turnberry golf course in Scotland.

"People are literally dying with the hunger; the hunger is killing them. Starvation is being used as a weapon," Dr. Bilal Piracha said.

President Trump said the US and other nations are giving money and food to Gaza but that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has “got to sort of like run it.”

The Israeli- and U.S.-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation has been widely condemned for weaponizing food aid against starving Palestinians.
