Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said President Donald Trump is putting the safety of the Los Angeles community and law enforcement first.

Kristi Noem, once a vocal defender of states' rights against federal use of the National Guard, now supports Trump's deployment of troops in California.

The Trump administration announced Saturday that it would be deploying the National Guard to the Los Angeles area after protests over immigration enforcement.

"If Joe Biden federalizes the National Guard, that would be a direct attack on states' rights," Noem said in an X post on Feb. 6, 2024, when she was still governor of South Dakota.
