A week before the announcement, a 25-year-old woman was shot and killed on a METRO bus, and a 16-year-old was injured. The Houston Police Department arrested two individuals in relation to the shooting.

On Thursday afternoon, METRO confirms with ABC13 that the deputies involved in Wednesday night's shooting will not be patrolling for METRO while the investigation is underway.

As freezing temperatures and icy conditions move into the Houston area, METRO says it is taking steps to keep riders and employees safe while maintaining readiness across the transit system.

All bus services remained suspended on Sunday.
