Explosion sparks massive fire at Stickney industrial plant
A large fire broke out Wednesday evening after an explosion at an industrial plant in suburban Stickney, sending a massive plume of smoke into the sky and prompting shelter-in-place precautions for nearby residents and a local college.
The facility is a pulp and paper mill and a liquid packaging plant, according to the Washington Department of Ecology.
Officials in California say a possible explosion of an industrial tank holding 7,000 liquid gallons of highly flammable and toxic chemicals is now off the table.
