Georgia’s Gov. Brian Kemp (R) on Tuesday announced a special election to fill the House seat vacated by the resignation of former Republican lawmaker Marjorie Taylor Greene, a onetime staunch defender of President Donald Trump who had an acrimonious split with the president on several issues.

Democrats declared victory Tuesday night for Iris Sanchez over Republican Jamie Vaughan to fill the 25th House District seat in New Britain.

The vacancy created by California Rep. Doug LaMalfa's death will now be filled in a new special election. Gov. Gavin Newsom has 14 days to proclaim the special election and set a date.
