The New York Yankees pulled themselves out of the running for Eugenio Suárez, and now Jon Heyman believes the Chicago Cubs and Seattle Mariners are the leaders.
The New York Yankees are looking for answers at third base, and many analysts think they've found their guy in Arizona Diamondbacks star Eugenio Suárez. CBS Sports writer Mike Axisa urged the Yankees to make a big swing for both Suárez and Diamondbacks right-handed pitcher Merrill Kelly.
Major League Baseball's trade deadline is scheduled for next Thursday, which means teams have less than a week to get their midsummer shopping done. The moves have already started, as the Mariners recently acquired Josh Naylor from the Diamondbacks while the Yankees acquired Ryan McMahon in a trade with the Rockies.
"The Yankees also need starting pitcher help, and the Diamondbacks have two pitchers — Zac Gallen and Merrill Kelly — that could be moved at the deadline. The Yankees will package one of them with Suarez to complete what will be the biggest blockbuster of the deadline as New York competes with the Blue Jays for the American League East crown."
As the MLB trade deadline approaches, the Arizona Diamondbacks could have interest in two of their veteran starting pitchers.
Arizona shipped off outfielder Randal Grichuk to the Royals, The Post’s Jon Heyman confirmed on Saturday. Right-handed pitcher Andrew Hoffman is going back to Arizona. Going into Saturday’s play, Grichuk has a .243 batting average with a .742 OPS with 15 doubles through 69 games this season.
After a 12-run, 14-hit outburst Friday night, the Phillies pounded 13 hits and drew seven walks Saturday. They’ll take aim at a sweep on Sunday.
The Padres don't have the best farm system, but neither do the Yankees. Despite that, The Athletic noted that both teams could be interested in Kelly at the deadline, naming them potential trade fits for his services.
