Warner Bros. has been sold and resold over the decades. AT&T gained control in 2018 as part of its $85.4 billion purchase of Time Warner. Discovery, a cable television company, took over in 2022.

The Writers Guild of America came out swinging on Thursday against a merger between Warner Bros. and any other studio, saying such consolidation would be a “disaster” for writers. The statement comes two days after Warner Bros.

The co-CEO adds on an earnings call with analysts, "Nothing is a must for us to meet our goals that we have for this business."

Three of the rumored potential buyers for entertainment titan Warner Bros. Discovery are tech companies. Netflix, Amazon, and Apple are all interested in buying Warner Bros. Discovery as a whole or acquiring pieces of the company, like its content libraries and production assets, according to Bloomberg.

Warner Bros. Discovery has signaled that it may be open to a sale of its business just months after announcing plans to split into two companies.

James Patterson, a retired foreign service officer and longtime Warner Bros. Discovery stockholder, sent a sharply worded letter to Zaslav on Oct. 20.
