T ornadoes, heavy rain, and thunderstorms tore through parts of the Midwestern and Southern United States over the weekend, leaving dozens dead. The weather system, which began on Friday, produced more than two dozen tornadoes that ripped through parts of Kentucky, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin.
"A maturing central U.S. storm system is expected to produce another round of dangerous severe weather and instances of flash flooding today," the National Weather Service warned Monday. The forecast discussion added that "from a broader perspective," locally heavy rain was forecast to reach from the northern Plains to Texas.
An EF1 tornado tore through parts of Ripley County and Dearborn County on Friday, May 16, according to a report from the National Weather Service.
According to NWS Indianapolis, storms with damaging winds, large hail, and tornadoes will reach the Illinois-Indiana border around 6 p.m., and it should reach Indianapolis by 7 p.m. and the eastern portions of central Indiana by 8 p.m.
