The EF3 tornado caused at least $1 billion in damage in the city of St. Louis alone. At the storm’s peak, more than 100,000 lost power. Five people were confirmed dead and dozens of residents were hospitalized with injuries.
U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley flew into St. Louis on Monday and headed to the 4200 block of Kossuth Avenue, an especially hard-hit area of north St. Louis.
Convoy of Hope is helping to provide supplies to those in St. Louis and Kentucky who were impacted by Friday’s tornadoes. The nonprofit sent trucks and teams Saturday from its world headquarters in Springfield and from its first regional distribution center in Atlanta, Georgia, which hasn’t officially opened yet.
Angela Nelson now is director of the department and on Monday, she expressed concern that history may be repeating itself as St. Louis struggles to recover from the May 16 tornado that caused extensive damage in North City neighborhoods.
