Rory McIlroy struggled in the third round of the 2025 Genesis Invitational, posting one of the worst putting days of his career.

McIlroy missed two short putts in the final round at Pinehurst that cost him his first major in a decade. His club choice on the par-3 15th, which led to McIlroy hitting it over the green and making a bogey, was also questioned by former PGA Tour pro Smylie Kaufman and longtime golf instructor Hank Haney.

Rory McIlroy launched into an expletive-laden outburst at a fan during the final round of the Genesis Invitational after being heckled about his caddie Harry Diamond. The Northern Irishman reacted furiously when a spectator suggested he should "blame" his caddie following a missed putt at Riviera Country Club.
