Following his Bears ouster, Eberflus is back in the NFL, this time as defensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys. That means he’s effectively the lieutenant of (bizarre) first-year head coaching hire Brian Schottenheimer. And that means he’s in a position to give Schottenheimer advice about what NOT to do as a head coach.

New Dallas Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer was promoted last month and immediately began to fill out his coaching staff. Among those hires was banished former head coach of the Chicago Bears, Matt Eberflus as defensive coordinator.

Eberflus came to the Cowboys in 2011 working in a 3-4 defense under Rob Ryan. He left following the 2017 season after working in a 4-3 scheme under Monte Kiffin and Rod Marinelli. In his last two seasons, he served as the passing game coordinator and worked alongside Marinelli in many ways.
