The NHTSA estimated that around 1.2% of the recalled vehicles have the defect. Nissan has not yet released a dedicated phone number for this recall. The car-maker said the recall is part of its ‘ongoing commitment to customer safety’. It comes after Nissan recalled various car models for possibly having faulty airbags.

Nissan said in its announcement that a failed engine can lead to a “loss of motive power" and increase the risk of a crash.

The Nissan Altima and Rogue and Infiniti QX50 and QX55 are being recalled to fix potential engine failure due to a defect.
