A widespread power outage hit Spain and Portugal, affecting millions of people who live across Europe's Iberian Peninsula.

According to Spain’s meteorological agency, AEMET, temperatures across the country were between 60 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit around the time of the power outages. By the end of the day, highs had climbed to between 82 and 87 degrees.

Subway networks, hospitals, airports, traffic lights, ATMs and telecommunications systems were crippled in scenes that brought a 21st-century population back to 19th-century conditions.
