An "Ian Alert" covers gaps between other alerts and will use the same system as the AMBER Alert. It’s named for Ian Sousis, a 9-year-old boy who had autism. He ran away from the Children’s Home of Northern Kentucky and drowned in the Ohio River on June 4, 2022.

The lawmaker on the bill, Rep. Candy Massaroni from Bardstown, says the alert runs on the Amber Alert system, which automatically pushes information out statewide.
