Houston Mayor John Whitmire is taking steps to permanently remove a member of the city’s food insecurity board following racial comments she made on social media about the devastating flooding in the Hill Country that decimated Camp Mystic, a private summer camp for girls.

The camp announced Monday that 27 of its campers and counselors died in Friday's floods in the Texas Hill Country. The former member of Houston's food insecurity board referred to the camp as a "whites only enclave" in a widely circulated TikTok video over the weekend.

Sade Perkins, a former member of the Houston Food Insecurity Board, is facing backlash due to her recent comments about Camp Mystic in Hunt, Texas. She uploaded a video on TikTok after the Christian summer camp was hit with flash floods, leading to the death of five young girls, while many were reported missing.
