An item in Republicans' sweeping policy and tax bill intended to block Medicaid dollars from flowing to Planned Parenthood, the nation’s biggest abortion provider, is also hitting a major medical provider in Maine.

Planned Parenthood has said if it is "defunded," nearly 200 of its centers across 24 states would be at risk of closure - impacting millions of patients.

A provision in Congress’ “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” signed by President Donald Trump would block Medicaid payments for services at facilities like Planned Parenthood for up to a year.
