Damion Downs scored in the sixth round of a shootout after three saves by Matt Freese, sending the U.S. to the semifinals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup with a 4-3 penalty-kicks win over Costa Rica after a a 2-2 tie.

The United States men's national team is through to the Concacaf Gold Cup semifinals after besting Costa Rica in a penalty shootout at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis on Sunday. The U.S. had a perfect group stage with three wins, and followed it up by besting former Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Keylor Navas on penalties.
