The Boston Red Sox made a shocking move when they traded Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants, but the return has not looked great so far.
Right-hander Jordan Hicks continues to struggle, as he allowed two runs in the ninth inning on Monday. The 28-year-old now has a 6.61 ERA in 28 appearances this season and a 7.07 ERA in 15 outings since the Red Sox acquired him in the Rafael Devers trade. However, manager Alex Cora remained committed to him in the postgame presser, via NESN.
The Red Sox are designating backup catcher Ali Sanchez for assignment to open roster space for Nate Lowe. Read more at MLB Trade Rumors.
The Red Sox starter said, “Tonight it was definitely a rocky one. I had no idea where really anything was going.”
The Boston Red Sox lost first baseman Triston Casas to a devastating knee injury in May. The 25-year-old had struggled early in the season, but carried high expectations to return to his prior form in which he put up a 129 and 124 OPS+ in 2023 and 2024 respectively.
The Red Sox shouldn't mess around at Thursday's MLB trade deadline. With the team right in the thick of the playoff race, the Boston brass has to go for it.
