Ancient human remains discovered in an Irish bog in October 2023 don't belong to a teenage boy as originally assumed but rather a young woman, making them an exceptionally rare find. Over the past year,

Initial excavations found bones from the arms, legs, fingers and breastbone, police said. Because the body had been well preserved in the bog environment, researchers also found partial skin, fingernails from the left hand, some toenails and what appears to be a kidney.

The remains, which were discovered in October 2023, are thought to be those of a young woman.
